FORUM Encourages Financial Peace
Indianapolis, Indiana, August 10, 2010 – Over the past couple of years, FORUM Credit Union has been helping members and non-members reduce their debt and increase their savings through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) classes. Dave Ramsey, a money management expert and popular national radio personality, created FPU – a program that teaches people how to make the right decisions with their money and achieve their financial goals. Twenty-one FORUM employees have graduated from FPU, several additional employees have engaged in classes as their schedule has allowed, and ten employees have taught these classes at FORUM locations in the evenings.
“FORUM’s participation in FPU coincides with the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people.’ FORUM likes to meet people where they are, offer real solutions to better their financial health, keep them accountable on the road to their financial goals, and help members develop habits that will promote future financial health,” says C. Andrew Mattingly, Chief Marketing and Retail Officer with FORUM Credit Union.
FORUM began offering Financial Peace University classes in 2009, and has offered two classes already this year, each class lasting 13 weeks. From just one class this year at the Greenwood Branch location, eight families reduced their debt by a combined total of $21,722. Two new classes are beginning this August at the FORUM Headquarters location and Avon Branch location.
“We are proud to be the only financial institution to offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University in the Greater Indianapolis area. Since offering the first class in 2009, we have graduated a total of 50 families resulting in a total savings increase of $25,000 and a total debt reduction of $163,000 over the 13 week course. Many of our participants come not only for the individual benefit in their personal financial life, but also to better equip themselves to educate their kids on how to be financially responsible. It continues to be a very rewarding experience to see how our Financial Peace University classes are making a tangible, positive impact in the community,” says Brandon Speckman, Regional Manager with FORUM Credit Union and FPU leader.
