FORUM Spirit Advisory Council Helps Community

Indianapolis, Indiana, June 21, 2011 – Formed in 2005, the FORUM Spirit Advisory Council has worked toward facilitating community partnership on behalf of FORUM Credit Union employees.  Employees are focusing their 2011 fundraising efforts on the Julian Center and the Humane Society for Hamilton County. FORUM has recognized these specific needs in the community, and its employees have stepped up to the challenge to help these charities.

The Julian Center is a nonprofit agency providing counseling, safe shelter, case management, advocacy and education for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other life crises. Their mission is to provide victims with these services so they can recover and build a life absent of abuse. The Humane Society is a no-kill, safe place for pets that have been abandoned, abused or lost. Many family pets are at the Humane Society as individuals who have lost employment in the current economy often cannot afford to keep their animals. Funds are currently being raised among FORUM employees through various activities including $5 Jean Days, a SOUPer Bowl cook-off, a 3 week employee auction, and more. Over $5,000 has been raised through employee Jean Days alone. Besides donating money, FORUM offers volunteer opportunities for employees as well.

FORUM employees are also looking forward to an Italian Dinner on Tuesday, June 21. They can invite their family and friends to accompany them for a night of music, raffle prizes, good food, and special guest servers – the FORUM Officer Team.  Over 300 tickets have been sold and all funds that are raised will go toward the selected charities. 

“I believe giving back is not just about the ‘feel good’ emotions that come with it.  What is more important is that it helps shape your experiences and yourself as a person in the process.  Overall, it helps you understand the bigger picture in life,” says Stephanie Hamelmann, FORUM Corporate Recruiter.

The FORUM Spirit Advisory Council continues to work toward initiatives such as promoting dedicated employee volunteerism, identifying innovative philanthropic opportunities, and contributing positively to the well-being of the community at large.
