FORUM Credit Union Raising Money to Purchase Van for Homeless Center

Indianapolis, Indiana, June 29, 2009 – As part of an ongoing initiative to benefit Dayspring, a local homeless center, FORUM Credit Union employees are focusing their 2009 fundraising efforts on buying a 15 passenger van for the center.  The goal is set at $20,000 to purchase the vehicle.  Funds are being raised among FORUM employees through various activities including $5 jeans days, penny wars, bake sales, cookouts, and more.  One of the more popular activities has been snack cart day.  Once a month several FORUM employees contribute baked goods to a snack cart.  Employees then push the cart around and make stops in different departments.  Employees select the snack item of their preference and then donate the dollar amount they choose, and all proceeds go toward the purchase of the van.

In recent years, FORUM Credit Union has built a strong relationship with the Dayspring Center. Dayspring provides emergency shelter, clothing, and three nourishing meals-a-day for homeless families with children in central Indiana.  Families turn to Dayspring as a last resort; some to escape domestic abuse, others have experienced financial collapse, medical problems, or other crises that caused them to lose their home.  In the past, FORUM employees have volunteered monthly to serve dinner to their residents, host monthly youth finance classes, and serve at an annual summer cookout.

Employees created a cardboard van to introduce the program and show a visual of how much money has been raised.  Currently, FORUM employees have risen over $13,000 toward the purchase of the van. For updates on the amount raised, visit www.forumcu.com/employeedonations.aspx.
