Indianapolis, Indiana, June 16, 2017-
The 2017 FORUM Foundation Summer Reception was held at the FORUM Conference Center in Fishers on Sunday. Nineteen teachers from central Indiana were chosen to receive educator grants which were applied to various classroom initiatives and projects. In addition, seven high school seniors were awarded collegiate scholarship funds based on a combination of academics, extracurricular activities, and their application responses. These grant and scholarship recipients were honored at the reception by members of the Foundation Board of Directors.
The following teachers received educator grants to be used in their classrooms:
Erin Amones, Doe Creek Middle School; Jamie Beck, Greenwood Community Schools; Catherine Brinkerhoff, Brownsburg East Middle School; Douglas Brown, Noblesville West Middle School; Cathleen Clady, Eleanor Skillen School #34; Kathy Drake, Pleasant View Elementary School; Melody Gayle, Break-O-Day Elementary; Tracie Greene, Smoky Row Elementary; Karen Hovanec, Cathedral High School; Kylie Keevy, Harshman Middle School; Jennifer Marlow, Carmel High School; Theresa Mendez, Central Catholic School; Terry Mitchell, Guion Creek Intermediate; Nicole Monkul, Brooks School Elementary; Ryan Morphew, Options Charter Schools; David Nelson, Indian Creek Elementary; Carla Redden, Stonybrook Middle School; Helen Shere, Herron High School; Gwen Wieczorek, St. Theodore Guerin High School.
The following students received $5,000 collegiate scholarships, renewable for up to four years:
Gunnar Large, New Palestine High School; Michael “Blaine” McBroom, Carmel High School; Blake Miller, St. Theodore Guerin High School; Hannah Robinson, Westfield High School; Maxwell Shores, Fishers High School; Rachel Walters, Zionsville Community High School; Cameron Wilson, Heritage Christian High School.
Along with the 2017 scholarship and grant recipients, the FORUM Credit Union Foundation recognized 2015 and 2016 scholarship recipients at the reception. Now in its third year, the Foundation has awarded a total of 49 educator grants and funded over $75,900 to area classrooms. FORUM will also send a third class of students to college this fall with $5,000 in scholarship funds that are renewable annually for up to four years, totaling $20,000. The FORUM Credit Union Foundation strives to improve the communities served through increased educational opportunities and experiences.
The educator grant application for the 2017-2018 academic year is currently open to teachers through September 1, 2017 with recipients being announced October 1, 2017. The application for collegiate scholarships will be available October 1, 2017. The scholarship winners will be announced in the Spring of 2018.
