Giving Back

Monday, 24 November 2008 08:49 by Courtney

Hi! How is everyone this week? Ready for Thanksgiving? I'm certainly ready for all of the delicious food!

Kate, thanks for responding last week! I like the name exchange system for presents. I wish my family did that! I spent yesterday Christmas shopping again for all of our family and friends.

I was thinking about the season and thought it would be good to talk about "giving back." Most of us are very fortunate when it comes to having enough to eat, having a roof over our heads, and receiving the education we need to succeed. So, I thought I would list a few places in the Indianapolis area where there are opportunities to give back and serve the less fortunate. There are all sorts of ways to give back, whether it be through volunteering or even donating items or money.

Wheeler Mission - an organization that provides goods and services to the homeless
Shepherd Community Center - an organization with a goal to break the cycle of poverty on the near east side of Indianapolis
Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis - this organization desires to provide youth with a safe, educational and positive atmosphere where they can prosper and reach their full potential
St. Vincent Health - St. Vincent needs volunteers to help give care and services to their patients

Have you volunteered in the past? Do you plan on volunteering or donating during this holiday season? If you can't donate or volunteer, where would you choose to volunteer or donate to if you could do so?
