To learn about money, there are some pretty fun tools available. A great online money game can be found at countmybeanz.com. At Count My Beanz, each member of the family can set up a checking and savings account with a virtual currency called Beanz. Parents can select certain activities for their children to accomplish (doing the dishes, getting good grades, etc.), and then reward them with Beanz. Kids have the opportunity to save their Beanz, make donations, and redeem real rewards (by way of the parent).
Another unique tool is “Kids Money,” a free app by Apps Rocket available for the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. This tool helps you understand how to manage money and plan for longer-term purchases. You can input your allowance, gift money, and the cost of the item you are saving for. The app then calculates how long you need to save before being able to purchase your goal item.
Check out these two tools and let us know what you think.
