I have recently read articles on how car pooling is really adding up the savings for American drivers as well as helping out our planet. I wanted to share some interesting facts about carpooling that can really make a difference in all our pocket books.
Americans have a love affair with their cars and many of us drive to work alone. Because the basic concept of a carpool is getting to share a ride with other commuters headed to the same direction as you are, there are great opportunities to beat rising gas prices and Go Green at the same time. But a simple way to help the planet and save some cash is jumping in the car with a friend or co-worker. If you haven’t tried it yet, an easy way to Go Green and Save Green is to take one co-worker and then add two more. Carpooling with even just one other person instead of flying solo saves over 8,000 pounds of CO2 every year. Also, by splitting up the cost for gas, you can save money in your pocket book which gives you more money for coffee. For those of you who can use a bus in certain cities, you are already doing your part to Go Green. One full city bus means 40 fewer cars on the road. Also, certain buses run on clean energy and that means even less pollution for our area.
FORUM Credit Union has also jumped on the Go Green and Save Green initiative. At our headquarters in Fishers IN. parking spots located by the entrance of the building were recently changed from yellow striping to green. These specific spots are reserved for employees carpooling to work every day. In addition to going green and saving green, these employees have a short walk to the building entrance. That is a real bonus on those rainy days.
Good luck filling up those seats in your car with co-workers and enjoying that extra cup of coffee!!
