10 Ways to Save Money and Be Healthy

Tuesday, 7 July 2009 15:53 by Jacki

A lot of people claim that being healthy costs money: gym memberships, health food stores, and the like. Here are 10 ways to be healthy and save money at the same time.

1. Ride your bike or walk
Save money on gas and get exercise by riding your bike or walking to work or around town.

2. Grow a garden
Supply your own healthy vegetables and get exercise by planting your own vegetable garden.

3. Drink water
Instead of buying soda or expensive coffee, switch to water; buy a filter and save even more.

4. Kick the addictions
Whether it’s caffeine, sugar, or tobacco, habits are unhealthy and cost a lot of money, so stop.

5. Eat out less
Restaurant proportions are extremely large and fattening, not to mention expensive; make a point to cook at home more often.

6. Lower your insurance
Some insurance providers offer discounts to members who quit smoking or who start an exercise program.

7. Switch processed snacks to fruit and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are much healthier than processed snacks and cheaper too.

8. Cut back on indulgences
Skip the dessert to save money and calories. Have a supply of snacks handy at work so you’re not tempted by the vending machine.

9. Plan your meals
Planning meals helps you avoid eating out and also helps you keep track of your calories.

10. Don’t grocery shop when you’re hungry
Going to the grocery store when you are hungry causes you to overbuy and buy unhealthy items that you didn’t plan on buying.
