You’ve already booked your flight, but how can you save money while at the airport?
Carry On. Instead of checking your luggage and paying a $15 to $25 fee per flight, try carrying on. Even if you have to purchase a few smaller travel size items (ex. 3 oz plastic bottles for shampoo and conditioner), you’ll still save money in the end.
Bring Your Own Snacks. Pack a few light snacks (a bag of chips, granola bar, etc.). You’ll save money and probably eat healthier. You can also bring an empty water bottle and fill it up at the water fountain once you’ve gone through security.
Eat A Meal Before You Leave Home. By eating a wholesome meal before you get to the airport, you’ll be less tempted to make impulse purchases on snack items.
Plan Ahead. Make sure to purchase gum, tissues, and other drug store items before your trip. These items will probably be marked up in price at the airport.
Get A Ride To The Airport. Instead of paying for airport parking, see if a friend or family member has time to drop you off and pick you up from the airport. You could always give them a small gift as a thank you (cup of coffee, gift card, or lunch). The cost of the small gift will still be less money than airport parking depending on the length of your trip. You could also try public transportation.
Bring Your Own Reading Material. Instead of purchasing a magazine or book in the airport, visit your local library before your trip and borrow reading material for free.
