No, this
isn’t a post to help sales professionals sell more; it’s for people out there
who have something they want to sell. If you have items around your home that
you don’t use, here are a few tips to help you sell them and make more money.
Collect
Gather up
all of the items you no longer want and determine if they are sellable. Make a
sell, donate, and trash pile. You may be surprised by what people will buy, but
make sure it is worth your time and effort to sell.
Categorize
Place the
items into separate categories which will help you determine where to sell
them: clothing, household, furniture, baby or child clothing, etc. Some items may
make sense to sell together. If you have clothing of the same size, you could
sell them as pairs – 2 pairs of size medium pants for $X.
Compare
Do your
research and find out what similar items are selling for. Visit online market
places or second hand stores to determine a pricing strategy. The more unique
and hard to find item you have, the more you can ask for.
Describe
People want
to know everything about the item, and if you leave anything out, you might
lose a buyer who doesn’t want to ask questions. Look at the “new” listing of
the item for keywords. Take photos and clearly state what the item is and what
condition it’s in.
List
There are
many options for listing your items: online marketplaces, classified ads, posting
areas at work, consignment stores, or even your personal social media sites. One
isn’t better than the other, and you can list in multiple places. Just make
sure you factor in shipping costs, which may lead you to select only local
listings.
