Tuesday, 7 December 2010 11:06 by Courtney

FORUM Credit Union announces three SaveItUp Challenge winners for 2010.  Participants were entered to win three cash prizes once they enrolled in the program, completed four out of seven financial steps, and met at least one goal.  Three goal categories were offered: Savings, Debt Reduction, and Financial Education.

Savings Goal winner Thomas Hasler won a $3,000 Weekly 5 Club Account.  FORUM’s Weekly 5 Club is a savings account that gives members a chance to win prizes each week, month, quarter, and year by making regular deposits to their savings.  When asked how the Challenge helped him improve his saving and spending habits, Mr. Hasler said, “I wanted to be debt free.  It simplified my life and I don’t have to worry about missing payments.”  Discussing whether he would recommend the Challenge to others, he said he had already suggested the Challenge to a friend at work.

The SaveItUp Challenge Debt Reduction goal winner of a $3,000 Weekly 5 Club Account went to Mitchell Butler.  Mr. Butler described his reaction to winning as, “I was surprised and kind of did not believe it!”  Mitchell said the Challenge helped him keep track of his spending and he plans to invest his prize money.

Eric Normington, the Financial Literacy prize winner for the SaveItUp Challenge, described what he will do with his $1,500 Weekly 5 Club prize.  “I’m going to keep half of it in my FORUM Interest Rewards Checking Account.  I’m going to take the other half to pay off debt.”  When asked what his favorite part of the Challenge was, Normington said, “It felt good being rewarded for something we should already be doing – saving money and reducing debt.”

Additionally, FORUM offered four Financial Peace University classes this year, each class lasting 13 weeks.  Dave Ramsey, a money management expert and popular national radio personality, created Financial Peace University – a program that teaches people how to make the right decisions with their money. Classes were held at FORUM’s Headquarters, Greenwood, Noblesville, and Avon locations.  Thirty-eight people graduated from these classes and as a group reduced their debt by a combined total of $131,122.

FORUM will be offering a SaveItUp Challenge in 2011 as well.  Those who participated in the 2009 and/or the 2010 Challenge will also be eligible to participate in the 2011 Challenge.
