FORUM History

1940's

  • 1941- FORUM Credit Union (formerly Indiana Telco Credit Union) was organized by the employees of Indiana Bell Telephone Company.
  • For many years the credit union was operated from the telephone company’s facility.  There were no employees, but instead the credit union’s work was accomplished by volunteers and assistance from the telephone company.

1950’s

  • The credit union moved to its own location in the Chamber of Commerce Building in downtown Indianapolis.
  • The first full-time manager was employed and supervised a staff of six employees.  Services were focused on savings and loans.

1960’s

  • The computer age emerged, as well as a new manager, John Jeter.  He remained with the credit union until 1998 and left as the CEO.
  • The credit union was renamed Telco Federal Credit Union, and became the first credit union in the state to use data processing.

1970’s

  • The credit union needed additional office space, and purchased a plot of land at 116th & I-69.  In 1976, Telco Federal moved into its first owned facility.  The corporate offices and the Fishers branch were located in the same building.  This was also the location of the credit union’s first drive-up facilities.

1980’s

  • The credit union experienced tremendous growth.  More than 1,200 companies and organizations in the greater Indianapolis area are Select Employee Groups (SEGs) in our Field of Membership.

1990’s

  • 1991- Telco Federal moved its corporate offices into a new facility and opened a new separate Fishers branch.
  • Several new products and services were introduced to members (debit card, online banking, and bill payment services).
  • 1996- Monument Circle branch was the first fully automated branch to be opened in the Midwest.

2000’s

  • May 1, 2000- Due to the increasing number of non-telephone industry SEGs, the Board of Directors elected to change our credit union name to something which is more reflective of who we truly are.  The new name, FORUM Credit Union, represents our method of conducting business during the new millennium “Your Money.  Your Voice.  Your FORUM.”
  • The credit union continues to expand its offerings to meet the evolving financial needs of our members.  New services introduced include small business services, insurance, and wealth management.
